Access and Admissions: teams and responsibilities

Information about Access and Admissions, including our broad responsibilities and contact details for each of our teams.

We co-ordinateÌýUCL’s central access and outreach work, undertake admissions processing for some undergraduate, all graduate and affiliate applications as well as leads on related strategy and policy development.

Specialist teams withinÌýthe department are also responsible for the administration of student funding, maintaining UCL's immigration compliance, and leading on Prevent duties.


Access and Widening Participation team

Responsibilities include:

  • run events and programmes for students in Years 7 - 11, and also for families and teachers
  • workÌýwith students in years 12 and 13 in secondary schools, sixth form colleges and FE college
  • deliver the UCL Transition programme, which provides all first year undergraduates with a mentor from their department
  • lead on Widening Participation research and evaluation
  • lead on internal and external communications and pupil engagement
  • organise CPD for teachers and education professionals, and support »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË's academic departments with the development of their own widening participation initiatives

Graduate Admissions team

Responsibilities include:

  • processÌýall graduate and affiliate applications received by UCL
  • provide support, advice and guidance to all departments on matters regarding graduate admissions

Improvements and Strategic Projects team

Responsibilities include:

  • deliver operational excellence,Ìýfocusing on meeting customer needs using the minimum of energy and resources
  • identify and eliminateÌýnon-value adding activities in any process
  • support continuous improvementÌýof services or processes through incremental or breakthrough change
  • lead on UCL's Prevent duties

Student Funding team

Responsibilities include:

  • co-ordinate of UCL-wide scholarship and bursary schemes
  • administer US Federal and private loans
  • provide hardship and needs-based funding
  • provide advice and guidance on student financial welfare matters
  • co-ordinateÌýUCL submissions to external agencies such as Hefce and the SLC

Student Immigration Compliance team

Responsibilities include:

  • provideÌýadvice, guidance and information on compliance duties in relation to the Home Office Tier 4 immigration route
  • issueÌýCertificate of Acceptance for Studies for continuing students

Undergraduate and ITE Admissions team

Responsibilities include:

  • lead on policy, strategy development and implementation of all matters relating to the admission of undergraduate students
  • process undergraduate applications received from UCAS for faculties across UCL
  • process Initial Teacher Education (ITE) applications
  • support and advise all other faculties on matters regarding undergraduate admissions
