Promotions for UCL History academics

Three staff members from UCL History were successful in this year's senior academic promotions round.
Congratulations are due to UCL History's Adam Smith, Peter Schr枚der and Co艧kun Tun莽er, all of whom were successful in the university's most recent senior academic promotions round. Adam聽and Peter have been made professors and Coskun has been promoted to associate professor. In all three cases, the promotions recognise hard work and significant achievement in both teaching and research.
Adam Smith, who has just taken up a role as the department's graduate tutor (providing guidance and pastoral care for our PhD cohort), is a historian of the nineteenth-century United States. His latest monograph,聽The Stormy Present: Conservatism and the Problem of Slavery in Northern Politics, 1846-1865,聽was published in late 2017. Adam regularly appears on BBC radio and television and has written and presented several programmes on American topics. Peter Schr枚der joined UCL in 2001 and in 2018 will be returning to his teaching duties in the department after an extended period of research leave, which he has spent pursuing his studies in Europe. Peter is an intellectual historian and is interested particularly in the early modern history of political thought. His most recent book,聽Trust in Early Modern International Political Thought, was published last year by Cambridge University Press.
Dr Co艧kun Tun莽er has been with the UCL History department since 2013. He is an economic historian, with interests in the history of financial markets and institutions. At present,聽Co艧kun is co-investigator on a British Academy-funded project聽Democracy, autocracy and sovereign debt: How polity shaped government-creditor relations in the first age of globalisation. The project runs from 2016-2019 and has hosted聽workshops for international scholars in addition to its research outputs.
