School Visits

Our Schools Engagement scheme is part of our commitment to collaborate with schools and give students access to 'encounters with higher education’.*

Our School Visit programme is aimed at students in Years 11,Ìý12, and 13. Our sessions are delivered by experienced access and outreach practitioners on a range of topics and give you the opportunity to host visits and events in your school.

We have developed our sessions to support students' aspirations, improve their understanding of university learning, and enhance their university applications.

We ask schools to choose the session type that would most benefit the specific needs of their students. View our session types below.

Year 12 and 13 Information, Advice and Guidance sessions

Choosing your course and university

Duration: 30-45 minutes assembly or small group workshop

Year group: Year 12 students or new Year 13s

Session details:Ìý

  • This session guides students through the course choice process, giving advice on how to choose the right university and degree programme for them.
Personal statements and super-curricular engagement

Duration: ~45-minute assembly or 2-hour small group workshop

Year group: Year 12 students or new Year 13s

Session details:

  • This interactive session guides students through the process of writing the personal statement and how to effectively include super-curricular activities, using model examples.Ìý
  • The 2-hour small group workshop gives students who are applying to university more opportunity to explore examples in depth. They will be given a comprehensive planning guide, and there will be chance for them to receive feedback on a personal statement draft or plan.Ìý
  • Please note: We are making changes to this session in line with UCAS guidance about personal statements. Changes to personal statements do not apply to students applying for 2025 entry to university (i.e. current Year 13s).Ìý
Student finance and money management

Duration: ~45-minute assembly or 1-1.5-hour group workshop

Year group: Year 13 students

Session details:

  • This session gives an overview of the types of funding available for students and the student finance application process and timeline.
  • The group workshop includes an interactive budgeting exercise to get students thinking responsibly about how to manage their money at university.

Interactive academic skills sessions

Thinking like a university student

Duration: ~1 hour assembly or small group workshop

Year group: Year 12 or Year 13 students, interested in any university subject.

Session details:

  • This session introduces students to key skills they need at university, including research and analysis, presentation and debate and critical thinking. During the session, students will practise applying these skills through interactive tasks related to Jeremy Bentham and the Trolley Problem. Students will also have chance to apply their learning in an interdisciplinary context.

Sessions for Year 11s

Starting your Higher Education journey (Year 11s)

Duration: ~1 hour assembly or small group workshop

Year group: Year 11 students, interested in any university subject.

Session details:

  • This session will introduce Year 11s to what higher education is and give practical advise about choosing the right A-Levels for them.Ìý
  • The session will also include interactive tasks which allow students to practise metacognitive revision strategies.Ìý
