Year 12 Campus Visits

Our Schools Engagement scheme is part of our commitment to collaborate with schools and give students access to ‘encounters with higher education’.*

Our Year 12 Campus Visit programme aims to provide students with information and experiences that improve their understanding of higher education and create a sense of belonging before they submit their university applications.

We have developed three visit types to support students’ aspirations, improve their understanding of university learning, and enhance their university applications.

We ask schools to choose the visit type that would most benefit the specific needs of their students. View our visit types below.

*Ìý Benchmark 7: Encounters with further and higher education.

Visit 1: Exploring Higher Education Choices

The Exploring Higher Education Choices Campus Visit will support your students to consider pathways to university, raise your students’ awareness of course choices, and talk them through what life as a university student could look like for them outside of their degree programme.

This visit aims to:

  • Increase students' confidence in making informed decisions about accessing higher education.
  • Increase students' knowledge about finding support and overcoming barriers associated with higher education.
  • Encourage students to feel that they will 'fit in' at university.

A typical Exploring Higher Edcuation Choices visit will cover the following:

  • Introduction to higher education session (choosing your course and university).
  • UCL campus tour (with student ambassadors).
  • Student journeys (presentations by student ambassadors). These presentations will consider overcoming barriers to HE and navigating life as a university student.
  • Exploring student life: societies, sports, wellbeing services and life on campus
Visit 2: Exploring Academia

The Exploring Academia Campus Visit will support your students’ in considering post-16 pathways, raise your students’ awareness of university options, and explose students to learning at a university level.

This visit aims to:

  • Increase students' confidence in making informed decisions about accessing higher education.
  • Expose students to learning at a university level and begin to develop key academic skills to support them in their transition to university.

A typical Exploring Academia Campus Visit will cover the following:

  • Introduction to higher education and studying at university session
  • UCL campus tour (with student ambassadors).
  • Thinking like a university student session
  • 2 taster sessions in either STEM, Arts and Humanities or Social Sciences subjects
Visit 3: Crafting Success – Personal Statements

The Crafting Success - Personal Statements Campus Visit is an interactive day and will focus on personal statement and super-curricular advice and guidance.

This visit aims to:

  • Increase students' understanding of what is expected of them in a personal statement.
  • Provide students with key insights into what makes a personal statement successful and stand out.
  • Encourage students to begin planning or writing their personal statements or enhance their current draft.

A typical Crafting Success Campus Visit will cover the following:

  • Personal statement overview: what to include and how to write it.
  • Super-curricular engagement session.
  • Writing your personal statement session (during which, students will have chance to receive feedback from a member of our team on a plan or draft).
  • UCL campus tour (with student ambassadors).

Please note that this campus tour is most suitable for students who are considering writing, or have already begun writing, a personal statement to apply to university. If your students are only applying for other post-18 options, this visit may not be as useful for them.
