UCL Accommodation

UCL acknowledges the growing financial burden students face, especially in relation to living costs. As part of this, the UCL Accommodation BursaryÌýaims to support incoming students with rent costs. This initiative forms a part of UCL’s commitment to reducing financial barriers to higher education for students from low-income backgrounds and is paid in addition to the main UCL Undergraduate Bursary.Ìý

Eligibility for the bursary is determined automatically, with students needing to accept »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË as either their firm or insurance choice and apply for accommodation through the university. Last year, UCL offered up to 687 accommodation bursaries and spent a total of £711,000 to support students in the 2023/24 academic year.Ìý

A current recipient of the bursary says:Ìý

"The UCL Accommodation Bursary has been an absolute lifesaver for me during my first term at university. Being a student, I was concerned about my living expenses in London. The bursary allowed me to use my saved funds on essential items... I was relieved that I could focus on my studies without having to worry about finding the means to purchase these items and pay for my accommodation. The support I received from the Accommodation Bursary has been invaluable, and I am incredibly grateful for it."

Director of Accommodation, Joe Lay, said:

"It's great that the UCL Accommodation Bursary can alleviate the financial burden of housing costs for eligible students. As a result, the Hall community is richer, with all residents benefiting from an increase in home students in the Halls."
