    Since 2014, the sovereignty of Ukraine has been openly contested by both Russia and various rebel forces in the East and South of Ukraine. In our project “Contested Ukraine”, we argue that this contestation is not merely military.

    Crossed Paths: Mapping Ukraine’s Multicultural Literary Landscape

    Ukraine’s literary heritage is, thus, extremely rich; yet this richness is almost never viewed as a coherent, if complex, whole. Instead, self-isolating national paradigms separate and limit the work of writers who, in reality, existed across and between languages and cultures. 

    The Global Encyclopaedia of Informality is an interdisciplinary research project led by UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies. It provides the first multimedia online resource that explores informal practices and structures from a global perspective.

    Human Rights in Eastern Europe and Russia (HuRiEE)

    Who are the humans behind the Human Rights? An ERC (UKRI-funded) research project led by Dr Agnieszka Kubal, Associate Professor, UCL SSEES

    This study focuses on income inequality in towns and cities within countries and how this has changed over time in five high-income countries. 

    This project examines party instability in parliaments in European democracies. It has three objectives: to map out diverse forms of instability, to explain why instability occurs, and to understand whether and how instability affects voter support of parties.

    War-time Sexual Violence in Kosovo: Estimating the Incidence of Traumatic Experiences and their Impacts

    War-time experiences of displacement, injury and death can have dramatic and enduring impacts on victims’ social, economic and political choices. However, some forms of victimisation remain understudied.
