Newton International Fellowship Scheme 2020

°Õ³ó±ðÌýÌýhas now opened, withÌýdeadline on 26thÌýMarch, 3pm, UK time. The scheme provides the opportunity for the best early stage post-doctoral researchers from all over the world to work at UK research institutions for a period of two years, with possible start date between 1stÌýOctober 2020-31stÌýMarch 2021. The aims for the Newton International Fellowships Scheme are to:

  • Support the development and training of postdoctoralÌýresearchers at an early stage of their career from any country outside the UK, by providing an opportunity to work at a UK research institution for two years.
  • ÌýEnsure the best postdoctoral researchers across all relevant disciplines from around the world are supported in the UK.
  • Foster long-term relations between Newton International Fellows and the UK research base through the establishment of an alumni programme for former Fellows of this Scheme.Ìý

Funding consists of £24,000 per annum for subsistence costs, and up to £8,000 per annum research expenses, as well as a one-off payment of up to £3,000 for relocation expenses. Key eligibility points:

  • PhD, or will have a PhD by the time the funding starts
  • no more than 7 years of active full time postdoctoral experience at the time of application (discounting career breaks, but including teaching experience and/or time spent in industry)
  • Ìýbe working outside the UK
  • not hold UK citizenship
  • be competent in oral and written English
  • have a clearly defined and mutually-beneficial research proposal agreed with a UK host scientist (Co-Applicant)

It is essential that any potential candidateÌýidentifies and collaborates closely withÌýan academic inÌýthe Department of Political Science, who will act asÌýthe ‘UK host scientist’/Co-applicant.ÌýThe SPP host scientist and the applicantÌýwill also need to letÌýMonica BurgessÌýknow that they intend to apply to this call by, no later than, 24thÌýFebruary. This is to allow planning and to take into consideration UCL internal deadlines.
