The purpose of this job is to support teaching and learning in our academic programmes working closely with the module lead(s). See our programmes listed here:Ìý/ioe/departments-and-centres/departments/psychology-and-human-development

This role aims to provide professional development in teaching including:

• Appropriate support in developing teaching practice through seminar delivery and preparation.
• Receive guidance relating to small group facilitation, assessment and feedback.
• Undertake the mandatory introductory UCL Arena One Gateway workshop.
• The opportunity to enrol in the UCL Arena Fellowship programme.
• Participate in the peer dialogue scheme to discuss their performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Be monitored to ensure you have adequate time to commit to your PhD research.
• Opportunity to engage in further training (with approval from HoD/PGTA lead).

PGTAs are expected to be able to commit to be present on the Bloomsbury campus during the terms for which teaching is allocated and during the examination period as required. Please note that payments for work as a PGTA must be made into a UK bank account. Please be aware that you can only be employed up to 180 hours in total as a PGTA across all UCL programmes. If you are already working as a PGTA on another UCL or UCL IOE programme then we will not be able to appoint you to one of our positions. If appointed you will not be able to work as a PGTA on another programme. On your application please indicate which modules you would be interested in supporting and any previous experience as a PGTA. Key responsibilities

• Teaching assistance through the facilitation of seminars and/or workshops;
• Class preparation and meeting with lecturers/module organisers;
• Laboratory demonstration;
• Marking students' work;
• Giving feedback to students

Requirements for role

You will have demonstratable sound knowledge in a subject area relevant to the module(s) to be supported, together with the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with students, academic and support staff at all levels.

Essential criteria

• Currently a UCL PGR student (including CRS), or to be registered as a UCL PGR student by 01 September 2024Ìý
• Excellent working knowledge of MS Office software including Teams/Zoom, Word, Excel, and appropriate statistical packagesÌý
• Demonstratable sound knowledge in a subject area relevant to the module(s) to be supported (e.g., Research methodology, statistics, social psychology)
• The ability to listen to feedback and direction when working with module leads
• An enthusiasm for teaching and supporting student learning
• Self-motivation and competency in the fulfilment of administrative tasksÌý
• Commitment to UCL’s policies on Equal Opportunities and Race Equality, and to working harmoniously with students and colleagues from a variety of backgrounds

Desirable criteria

• Experience of using Moodle (or similar VLE) and preferably managing Moodle sites and blog-type sites
• Experience and knowledge of delivering teaching at a higher education level
