Description

Summary

This Specialist Paediatrics module provides five days of evidence-based teaching on diverse Acute Paediatric topics, predominantly from specialists working at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Institute of Child Health. Our aim is to encourage flexible, active learning of clinically-relevant, applied topics to facilitate a critical approach to clinical care and understanding of the importance of research to delivery of quality care.Ìý

Students are expected to involve themselves fully in the lectures, to reflect on the teaching, and to follow up with self-directed reading and research in topics that interest them.

Leaning Objectives and Outcomes

After taking this module, you will be able to:

  1. Understand research and practice in a range of acute paediatric topics.
  2. Frame questions and to critically appraise the relevant literature.
  3. Reflect upon the impact of research findings on clinical practice.
  4. IncreaseÌýunderstanding of acute paediatrics across a range of general and specialist topics

This is one of the available core modules for the MSc Paediatrics and Child Health: Advanced Paediatrics pathway, and an optional module for all other MSc Paediatrics and Child Health pathways.Ìý

Assessment

The assessment for this module comprises the below:Ìý

2000-word essay totalling 60% of the module markÌý

10 minute oral presentation totalling 40% of the module markÌý

Module deliveries for 2024/25 academic year
