Description

Module Content

This course is an advanced exploration of one or more issues in syntactic theory. We will discuss seminal papers on and current approaches to some issue or issues of current interest in generative grammar.

Teaching Delivery

Teaching will be delivered as a mix of lectures and student led seminars, with 2 x 2 hour sessions per week.

Indicative Topics

Indicative lecture topics are based on module content in 2023/24, subject to possible changes.

The topic of the course will vary from year to year. Past topics include the following:

- the analysis of clausal ellipsis

- the syntactic expression of discourse notions like contrast, topic, and focus

- the fine structure of verb phrases

Module Aims and/or Objectives

Module will provide a foundation for further study in Linguistics, Cognitive Psychology, and other areas ofÌýCognitive Science and Cognitive Neuroscience.
