This module is compulsory for students registered on the MEng in Engineering and Architectural design, however some places may be available to students on: BSc Architectural and Interdisciplinary Studies and BSc Architectural and Interdisciplinary Studies [with a year abroad] subject to rooming capacity restrictions. Non MEng students should appreciate that this module contains a week long practical assessment where attendance is mandatory.

Description

This module will be based on precedent studies: deconstruction of notable buildings to analyse holistically how they are designed, constructed and operated. Addressing a range of scales of urban and building infrastructure, it incoporates a series of site visits in London, visiting lectures from architects, engineers and facility managers, while introducing advanced engineering skills and architectural critical thinking of holistic design. Exploring building context. delivery, construction commissioning, maintenance and performance including urban energy, water, waste, transport, data infrastructure and other technical matters essential to make buildings work.
