Catatonia

Catatonia is a severe neuropsychiatric disorder that affects movement, speech and activity levels. This website is designed as an educational resource for clinicians, patients and carers.

Catatonia is an important neuropsychiatric disorder that was described in print in 1868 by Karl Kahlbaum.听It is a psychiatric emergency and requires prompt recognition and treatment.

About us

This website is written and maintained by Dr Jonathan Rogers and Professor Anthony David at University College London.

is a Wellcome Trust Clinical Training Fellow and a specialty registrar in psychiatry. He is conducting research as part of a PhD examining catatonia.

is Director of the UCL Institute of Mental Health. He is an honorary consultant neuropsychiatrist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. His research interests are wide-ranging, including schizophrenia, neuropsychiatry, medically unexplained syndromes and neuroimaging.
