Membership for all other users

Information for commercial users, members of the public and prospective UCL students on how to apply for library membership.

Commercial users

Special rates are charged to people who wish to access UCL libraries to carry out work in connection with their employment, be it for a company, charity, or other organisation.Ìý

Commercial users can apply for a one-day pass forÌý£15Ìýby completing an online application in advance of visiting the library.

When applying for membership, please allow at leastÌýtwo working daysÌýfor your application to be processed before you intend to visit the library.Ìý

Please note that weÌýcannotÌýoffer external users’ access to our databases and other electronic resources as the terms of the licences that we sign with e-resource publishers prohibit use for commercial purposes.

To apply

To apply for membership, applicants must complete the online registration form and attach:

  1. A passport style photo (colour, facing camera).
  2. A photo/scan of proof of home address (for instance, a valid driving license or recent utility bill).

Private researchers and members of the public

Members of the public can pay for reference access to the library for up to a year byÌýcompleting an online applicationÌýin advance of visiting the library.

Current charges are:

  • £7.00Ìýfor one day.
  • £20.00Ìýfor a week.
  • £30.00Ìýfor a month.
  • £120.00Ìýfor six months.
  • £200.00Ìýfor a year.

Members of the public are not permitted to borrow books.

Please note: when applying for membership, please allow at leastÌýtwo working daysÌýfor your application to be processed before you intend to visit the library.Ìý

The start date for short term paid memberships (one month and less) will be set when the card is collected.

Prospective UCL Students / A-Level Students

A-level students are welcome to use the library for their research, for a fee. Prospective UCL students are eligible to apply for a one-day ticket, free of charge.

A-Level Students

A-Level students can pay for reference access to the library for up to a year byÌýcompleting an online applicationÌýin advance of visiting the library.

Current charges are:

  • £7.00Ìýfor one day.
  • £20.00Ìýfor a week.
  • £30.00Ìýfor a month.
  • £120.00Ìýfor six months.

Prospective UCL students

Those wishing to look around the library with a view to becoming students at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË are eligible to apply online for a one-day ticket free of charge. Please indicate that you are a prospective UCL student in the ‘further details’ box at the bottom of the online application form and the normal daily charge will be waived. Any further access will be charged as explained above.
