Biography

Brother of Bryan Edwards the elder (q.v.), dying at Cheltenham in 1800.

  1. Zachary Bayly Edwards, Adm. Fell.-Com. (age 17) at ST JOHN'S, Feb. 15, 1772. [Youngest] s. of Bryan, deceased, and Elizabeth Bayly, late of Westbury, Wilts. [B. there.] School, private. Adm. at Lincoln's Inn, Nov. 4, 1771. Called to the Bar, Nov. 12, 1776. Of Chalcot House, Wilts. Had property in St Andrew's, Jamaica. Married Catherine, dau. of Rowland Otto-Baijer, Esq., of Antigua. Died Aug. 29, 1800, at Cheltenham. Buried there Sept. 2. (St John's Coll. Adm., IV. 236; G. Mag., 1800, II. 904; Gloucs. Notes and Queries, I. 297; Oliver, History of Antigua, I. 235.).

  2. Married Katherina Otto Bayer on 23 Dec 1783 at Farleigh Hungerford, Somerset.

  3. 29[th August] 1800 At Cheltenham [Death of] Zachary Bayly Edwards esq. of Chalcot House Wiltshire. Will of Zachary Bayly Edwards of St Thomas in the Vale County Middlesex Jamaica proved 20/03/1801. In the will he left his pen called Greenwich Park in St Andrew in trust to be sold. The Waterford estate in Barbados, he said, had been charged with 拢3000 to his wife under their marriage settlement by Rachel Warner. He secured an annuity of 拢600 p.a. to his wife Katherine Otto Baijer on his real estate other than Greenwich Park, and left 拢5000 each to his second son and four daughters.
