Biography

Son of Philip Batty of Castletown Delvin, Co. Westmeath, and brother of Fitzherbert Batty (q.v.)

  1. Matriculated Brasenose 20/06/1809 aged 15, BA 1814, of Lincoln's Inn 20/11/1807.

  2. Espine Batty wrote to Lord Goderich in January 1832 appealing for lower sugar duties and explaining that although he contributed 拢4000 p.a. in duties, 'I cannot get out of the estate 拢100 a year to live on.'

  3. Espine Batty's first wife, Jane (ne茅 Harris) died 28/09/1833. A memorial to Jane is affixed to the wall of St Anne's Parish Church, Dawson Street, Dublin.

  4. In 1851, Espine Batty (aged 57, born in Ireland, a Barrister, Counsel to the Irish Offic), was living at 4 Chester Place (next to the Duchess of Buckinghamshire) with wife Belissa, aged 44, and daughter Jane, aged 17 (both born Ireland). Will with 3 codicils of Espine Batty of 59 Stephens' Green Dublin who died 29/01/1883 proved at Dublin 05/04/1883 by widow Maria Batty, effects in England 拢2892 9s 7d. A marriage is shown as registered for Espine Batty on the Isle of Wight Q3 1862; likely Espine Batty's third marriage (to Maria).
