Government accepts Caldicott 2 recommendations Ìý

25 October 2013

The Department of Health has endorsed the recommendations of Caldicott 2, a review that builds on ground-breaking work undertaken by Dame Fiona Caldicott in 1997.

Following a request from the Secretary of State for Health, Dame Caldicott carried out this latest independent review of information sharing to ensure that there is an appropriate balance between the protection of patient information and the use and sharing of information to improve patient care.

Daniel Heather, JRO Archivist and Records Manager, will provide a presentation on the impact of Caldicott 2 for research at the JRO full unit meeting on 28 November 2013.

Many of the Caldicott 2 recommendations have a direct impact on research activity, including a drive for more effective sharing of data and a renewed effort to make patients aware of how and why their data is being used.Ìý
