About the Institute

The Reta Lila Weston Institute of Neurological Studies was founded in 1969 through a generous bequest from the Reta Lila Weston Trust for Medical Research. It focuses on research into neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinsons and Alzheimer’s disease and rarer conditions including Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Multiple System Atrophy and corticobasal degeneration. The overarching aim is to understand the biology of these devastating disorders to develop new and more effective treatments.

We are a research institute within , and are linked to, and fund some of the activity of the Queen Square Brain Bank. We also have links with the and carry out collaborative and interdisciplinary research combining clinico-pathological, genetic and cell biological approaches.
