Paediatric Reporting

HIV Surveillance

All HIV-exposed infants and any children diagnosed with HIV (<16 years), should be reported to ISOSS using the secure online portal.Ìý Enhanced data collection is carried outÌýfor all vertical transmissions in England-born children.Ìý All cases are reviewed by the Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy Screening Programme's HIV Clinical Expert Review Panel, in order to establish the circumstances surrounding the transmissions to inform national guidelines and policy.

Long-Term Follow-UpÌý

Following notification of any diagnosed children to ISOSS, all children seen for paediatric HIV care in England are followed-up until transition to adult care by the Children's HIV and AIDS Reporting System (CHARS)

Syphilis Reporting

All infants born to women who are treated for syphilis/require treatment in pregnancy are reported to ISOSS, as well as any cases of congenital syphilis.Ìý Enhanced data collection is carried out for all cases of congenital syphilisÌýin England-born children.ÌýÌýAll cases are reviewed by the Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy Screening Programme's Congenital Syphilis Clinical Expert Review PanelÌýin order to establish the circumstances surrounding the transmissions to inform national guidelines and policy.

Congenital Rubella

Congenital rubella is a notifiable disease, however as we work closely with the UKHSAÌýif you have seen a child with congenital rubella born in England, please also contact the ISOSS Team directly using nhs.net (england.isoss@nhs.net).
