PhD student Patcharaviral Charoenpacharaporn wins OUTSTANDING SACC2020 oral presentation award

UCL History is delighted to announce that PhD student Patcharaviral Charoenpacharaporn has recently won the OUTSTANDING SACC2020 oral presentation award in the field of Humanities and Law at the 12th Samaggi Academic Conference and Careers Fair (SACC).

UCL History PhD student Patcharaviral Charoenpacharaporn received the OUTSTANDING SACC2020 oral presentation award in the field of Humanities and Law at the 12th Samaggi Academic Conference and Careers Fair (SACC). This event was organised by Samaggi Samagom under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King of Thailand, and the Royal Thai Embassy.

Founded in 1901 by King Vajiravudh of Thailand, Samaggi Samagom is the oldest, most prestigious, and the largest Thai Association in Europe. The 12th SACC took place on 15-16Ìý February 2020 in London. It was opened by Dr. Wisanu Krua-ngam, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, the President of Samaggi Samagom, and H.E. Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand to the UK.

Patcharaviral's paper was titled Circumventing the Cold War Divisions: Thailand and India in the South-to-South Diplomatic Space. It considered the question of how non-aligned India and US leaning Thailand used the Colombo Plan and the 1955 Bandung Conference to navigate the geopolitical divisions and forge relations with each other.

The content of this paper was a result of Patcharaviral's research trip to Bangkok in August 2019 partly funded by UCL History Department's research funding.
