Seven Years of the Grand Challenges and the Connected Curriculum

A recent report celebrates seven years of the Grand Challenges involvement with teaching at the UCL Academy

UCL's collaborative work with UCL Academy includes close ties between the Grand Challenges programme and the academy's .聽GCSE pupils at the Academy complete a range of creative products aligned with UCL鈥檚 six Grand Challenges themes:

  • Global Health
  • Sustainable Cities
  • Cultural Understanding
  • Human Wellbeing
  • Justice & Equality
  • Transformative Technology

The聽Grand Challenges themes tackle pressing, global issues. Academy teachers work with university to make the Grand Challenges topics relevant and engaging for the academy students. Many academy students have presented the results of their work at 皇家华人, preparing academic posters and giving talks for university staff and students.

鈥�Feedback from UCL鈥檚 senior leadership team and Grand Challenges team on the quality of work students produced was excellent. Several students were able to articulate the importance of applying their learning to real world problems. They highly value the importance of speaking in front of real audiences.

1,440 UCL Academy Students have been exposed to Grand Challenges issues and themes since 2015 with all GCSE pupils now taking part in Grand Challenges projects.
