Operations Committee: Terms of Reference

Information regarding the UCL Operations Committee's formal powers and responsibilities.

Subject to any particular direction that may from time to time be given by the University Management Committee (UMC), the Operations Committee is charged by the UMC:

  1. To oversee and provide strategic direction for the Operations portfolio (Provost’s Office, External Engagement, ResearchÌýInnovation and Global Engagement, Advancement, Operations, Research Services, Student and Registry Services, Strategy), monitoring alignment with the university’s overall strategy and promoting a unified student experience;
  2. To monitor progress on professional service area strategic and operational plans, including risks and key dependencies within the portfolio and across other areas;
  3. To oversee major projects within the Operations portfolio; approve individual projects and make recommendations on prioritisation to the UMC or other relevant bodies;
  4. To review and take action as required on service metrics and related KPIs (including benchmarks, targets, trends), in particular those related to the student and customer experience;
  5. To monitor and advise on improvements to the student interface with business processes and systems;
  6. To serve as an escalation point for major operational risks that are unable to be effectively managed/resolved within the relevant unit;
  7. To refer matters to the UMC where they impact on the responsibility of other UMC committees or where the chair considers the decision is of strategic importance;
  8. To recommend major decisions relating to the Operations portfolio to the UMC.
