Academic Representation in UCL Geography

Academic representation is how we make sure our student's voices are heard. Every student should have the opportunity to shape their academic experience. That is the role of the Research Representatives.Ìý

Research Student Representatives (RSR)

These are Geography students studying for their Postgraduate (Research)Ìýdegree. They sit on the Staff-Student Consultative Committee (SSCC) and represent students across our MPhil and PhD programmes.

RSRs work with Department staff to give a voice to their fellow students and ensure your feedback is heard when decisions are made.

What to know more? Read why Human Geographer Beatriz Moraes Vidal decided to become an RSR:

Human Geographers come from very diverse backgrounds. In fact, many, including my own, aren't even geographical ones.Ìý

It's very important to represent all the needs students may have in order to make their experience at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË as fruitful and enjoyable as possible.Ìý

As someone who is both non-British and self-funded, I know very well the struggles that come with a PhD. That helps me accurately voice my fellow researchers' concerns.Ìý

Being a Student Representative is an excellent way to help my classmates feel more connected to the Department."ÌýBeatriz Moraes Vidal, SSCC Representative for Human Geography

Research Student representation in the Department stretches across all years of study as well as both Human and Physical Geography.

The team actively represent our Postgraduate Research Students at Termly SSCC Meetings as well as on the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee.

They also sit on the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and run a bi-monthly Virtual Coffee Morning for the Research Student community and host a number of events and socials throughout the year.
