Endometriosis Friendly Employer

The Eastman Dental Institute is a registered , helping drive positive change in the workplace for the 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth with endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a condition where cells similar to the ones in the lining of the womb are found elsewhere in the body, usually within the pelvic cavity. Each month these cells react to the menstrual cycle in the same way to those in the womb, building up and then breaking down and bleeding. Unlike the cells in the womb that leave the body as a period, this blood has no way to escape. This leads to inflammation, pain, and the formation of scar tissue (adhesions). The condition can have a huge impact on a person’s work and career.

As an Endometriosis Friendly Employer, we want to show a commitment to staff who have the condition and help break down the taboo and stigma surrounding endometriosis and menstrual conditions in the workplace, developing work environments where all staff are comfortable talking about possible practical adjustments that could be of benefit and provide those with the condition the necessary support to thrive at work.

If you want to find out more about the condition, support available and other resources, you can speak to our Endometriosis Champion Sara Giampietro (E: s.giampietro@ucl.ac.uk).
