15 July 2024

Sandeep received the Excellence in Research Award and $1,000 prize for his abstract at the ASGCT Annual Meeting 2024, where he gave a talk titled “pAAVing the way to Higher Titres in Stirred-Tank Bioreactors”.

The American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy (ASGCT) Annual Meeting is a major international conference covering a wide range of research topics within the field of gene and cell therapy, primarily on adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors. With over 6,000 members, ASGCT is the largest association involved in genetic and cellular therapeutics, and the recent ASGCT 2024 Annual Meeting in Baltimore saw a record 8,000+ attendees and 2,000 abstracts.

Sandeep, second-year EngD student at Biochemical Engineering, received the Excellence in Research Award and a $1,000 monetary prize for his oral abstract, which was scored among the top 15 abstracts at ASGCT 2024. In his talk, Sandeep demonstrated the influence of transfection parameters on AAV yields incorporating design-of-experiment methodology and he showcased the utility of the high-throughput Ambr® 15 stirred-tank bioreactor system for AAV platform development. Such bioprocess optimisation is necessary to reduce cost of AAV gene therapies.
