OMV Therapeutics wins YES 'best healthcare business plan'

29 April 2021

A team of UCL Biochemical Engineering graduate students has won the Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (YES) 'best healthcare business plan' award

MV Therapeutics winning team

The YES competition is a national event for student teams to pitch a start-up concept in one of three categories - biotech, energy & environment, plant & microbial. Entered into the biotech stream, our graduates' start-up (OMV Therapeutics), proposed a new immuno-therapeutic platform based on bacterial vesicles. Securing mentoring from experts in finance, intellectual property, and business development, the team successfully progressed to the final where they received the ‘best healthcare business plan’ award sponsored by GSK. The OMV Therapeutics team comprises Thomas Fanthom, Jack Firth, Georg Von Massow, Tiffany Hood, and Roman Labbé.

“The competition has been a really rewarding experience and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. It has been challenging managing our research and the competition during these times, but the whole team did an amazing job. Looking back, I don’t think we knew just how many entrepreneurial skills we would have picked up along the way to help us in our careers going forward. From the whole team: thank you to the UCL Department of Biochemical Engineering for sponsoring our entry, the mentors we worked with, and the YES organisers for the event.” said Tom.
