is an out of school club and supplementary school for primary aged children of African and Caribbean descent that works to raise the achievement and attainment levels of the children they work with through a range of educational enrichment programs and family learning events.

The partnership has been built upon Carmel Britto's desire to enable the children to work with a scientist, experience using a range of science equipment that they would not ordinarily have access to and to learn STEM skills from STEM professionals as part of the STEM Heroes programme she developed.

Mike has been instrumental in developing a working partnership between UCL engineering engagement team and LPF Kiddies Club by providing them with resources for their STEM club whilst standing in an advisory role.

As well as the engagement carried out by Mike, other members of the team at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Biochemical Engineering have been involved in projects with LPF Kiddies Club. One of our favourite (and tastiest) such as when Fiona Truscott and Oloto Ogonah made icecream using bags of ice, salt and liquid nitrogen. 

British Science Week Awards

On Saturday 16th March, Michael was invited to LPF Kiddies club's annual British science week event as an honorary guest to present awards to the club children who had completed the engineering challenges as part of their STEM club. During the event, Michael was able to observe some of the work LPF Kiddies club is doing whilst taking part in some workshops with the club families. He shared with the children about the work that he is doing and heard from the parents and children about how they had benefited from being apart if the club.

UCL backs inquiry into diversity in STEM

We're also pleased to announce that Mike was a signatory to UCL's a UCL-backed proposal calling for a Science and Technology Select Committee inquiry into diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects that proved successful last month.
