The Entrepreneurial State 2.0 Festival offeredÌýa public platform for global leaders, policymakers, and practitioners to rethink the state in the 21st century. The festival engagedÌýand invitedÌýa global audience to explore topics such asÌýdigital infrastructures for state innovation; the tensions and conflicts inÌýchanging the narrative and reshaping the global economy; the ways toÌýgovern financeÌýmore effectively to meet global challenges; how governments canÌýbuild both long-term capacity and dynamic capabilities; specificÌýchallenges facing developing countries; and much more.

View theÌýinsightful panel discussions, workshops and practice-focused convening to advance a bold view of the state as a key driver of challenge-oriented innovation, one that unleashes the creative potential of the public sector, unlocks new green markets for businesses, and ensures economic opportunity and security for citizens.

The Festival also celebratedÌýthe 5th anniversary of the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose and the 10th anniversary of the publication of Professor Mariana Mazzucato’s book .

Digital leadership in the entrepreneurial state​


Are states ready to implement the newÌýdigital transformation strategies? What skills do public servants require to be effective in the digital era, and how will governments respond to these demands? Who will lead the changes needed to enhance innovation and digitalise governments?

The panel discussion was chaired by DrÌýDavid Eaves, Associate Professor in Digital Government at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË IIPP in conversation with panellistsÌýProf.Ìý, Founding Director of UCL IIPPÌý, Founder of Code for America and US Deputy Chief Technology Officer (June 2013- June 2014),Ìý, world leader in digital government and Visiting Professor of Practice at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË IIPP andÌýNai Kalema, PhD Candidate at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË IIPP.

The event celebrated the 5th anniversary of the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose and contribute to the vision of the Entrepreneurial State 2.0.

The eveningÌýincluded a keynote speech byÌýProfessor Mariana MazzucatoÌýfollowed by a panel of leading voices, including , former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean,Ìý, Director and Head of the European Investment Bank Institute,Ìý, former First Minister of ScotlandÌýandÌý, President of the Resolution Foundation. We will explore the new economic thinking, new models of public-private partnerships, institutional changes and entrepreneurial state leadership needed to tackle big challenges.

Global leaders, artists and policymakers will also contribute to the evening withÌýa video onÌýwhat theÌýEntrepreneurial State means today.
