Burial customs: coffins of the Late Period
There are two main coffin types: 1. box coffin with vaulted lids and four corner posts. They are always the outer coffin of a set of several coffins. 2. anthropoid coffins. They are often decorated all over with formulae from the "Book of the Dead'. Later examples often have a disproportionately large head. (click on the images for larger pictures) |
